It was essentially dark, and raining, shooting at the limit of my camera. A pod of orcas had been herding a giant bait ball and this mother and baby were swimming my way. I dove down and the baby briefly swam away from mom to come over and investigate me. The interaction only lasted seconds before mother clicked a summons to get the baby to return to her side. This was a perfect morning with light, but the orcas were proving elusive and didn't want to give us the time of day. It was raining above, as right as the rain broke, a rainbow appeared. Shortly after we ducked into the water as a pod passed by. I dove down and was rewarded with a curious orca came over to check me out. Above the surface storm light was rocking. If you are there at the right time of day, at the right time of year, and in the right place, you will be treated to a spectacular light show as rays of light pierce down into the canyon.
